The Oregon Trail: A New American Journey

The Oregon Trail: A New American Journey by Rinker Buck, is an enjoyable history lesson (although I would prefer never to hear another story about mules again). In 2011, Rinker and his entertaining brother Nick literally hitch their covered wagon to three mules and travel the path of the Oregon Trail. Their passion for the history of the Oregon Trail and covered wagon travel is contagious and I learned many fascinating facts, including how difficult the trail could and can be. One of the nicest parts of the book is Rinker’s reflection on his relationship with his deceased father who was also an adventurer. Rinker captures the joy of travel; where every day holds something unknown and pushes you out of your comfort zone but eventually leaves you feeling energized and filled with joy and gratitude.
